Day 291 (22nd June) – Windhoek to Ghanzi, Botswana

1 07 2011

Very little to report today – on the whole a very boring drive through hundreds of kilometres of uninteresting bush and scrubland. Our border crossing was made at Buitepos, the trans Kalahari crossing. We are skirting the northern edges of theKalahari Deserton route to our bush camp close to Ghanzi.

Botswana’s best known export might be Mma Ramotswa, however it is diamonds that bring in the cash which has transformed the country. Three of the world’s richest diamond-bearing formations have been discovered here. The country can celebrate economic stability, good education and health care – compared to most other African nations.

During our after dinner nightcap we watched some traditional San People dancing around the camp fire.
