Day 284 (14th June) -Fish River Canyon to Sossusvlei

27 06 2011

Today was all about driving, with close to 500km to cover today. We made a stop in Solitaire for coffee and apple strudel – that would be the colonial German influence. We also took a look at the oldest building in Namibia, not much to look at, just a single story stone building from 18 something. Despite being on the road for a big old chunk of the day we passed very little civilisation, a few cars and trucks, and the odd tiny town. The desert and scrub land seems to go on forever unbroken by human touch.

Camp for the night was close to the Sossusvlei dunes – where we set up our tents and went for a run under another spectacular sunset.
