Day 145 – (26th Jan) – Great Ocean Road

3 03 2011

Koalas, Kangaroos, Possum and a Porcupine…

Famed for being Australians best drive, this winding 250km coastal road had a lot to deliver. While we can say it certainly was a very nice road, it unfortunately fell short of our expectations. Starting at Torquay and finishing at Port Campbell, the road takes over a dozen lovely coastal towns and countless stopping points for photos. We felt the drive was a little too developed never getting the feeling of escapism and freedom you should on a good coastal drive. Well, that’s what they would have you think in any car commercial.

Several hours into the drive we were keen to see a live Kangaroo as everything we had seen so far had been dead and lying by the side of the road. Fortunately we saw a couple; along with a Porcupine that was crossing the road. We stopped to see several Possums and Koalas in trees.
