Day Seventy Seven (19th Nov) – San Antonio de Areco

25 11 2010

It’s hardly worth mentioning just how many cars, buses or jeeps have broken down on us – so I won’t mention that another bus gave up the ghost on us today. Anyway, an hour and a half outside of Buenos Aires is a town called San Antonio De Areco where we spent the day on an Estancio (a ranch to you and I). While being very touristy and not really very authentic, there was some impressive horsemanship by the Gauchos. Other than being a popular restaurant in London, a Gaucho is a lone cowboy, with only his horse for a friend, who enjoys an all beef diet.

On the farm we were fed and entertained with traditional music and dancing. One of the dances was called the handkerchief dance, and yes it was as dull as it sounds. The Gaucho’s put on an impressive display and we got a short ride around the ranch
