Day Forty Seven (20th Oct) – Arequipa

24 10 2010

Arequipa marks the start of our journey into the Andes. Sitting at an altitude of 2,350 metres above sea level, altitude sickness is a possibility. With symptoms like headaches, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, dizziness or even fluid in the lungs and swelling of the brain, we were keen not to fall ill. However with very little preventative medicine it was a waiting game.

That afternoon we got tired of waiting and went white water rafting down the Rio Majes on category I to III rapids, great fun. Then in the evening explored Arequipa.
