Day Twenty Five (28th Sept) – Belem

4 10 2010

A morning pick-up from our pousada, and a boat trip into the Amazon delta. Our guide was very good – a grey haired white Brazilian man who spent ten years living in the jungle with an indigenous tribe! Every two steps he would stop and point out a plant or flower that would cure a headache or cancer. To be honest, I wasn’t really paying attention; I was constantly applying insect repellent and suntan lotion. We met a few locals, ate fruits and nuts foraged from the jungle, and tried not to think of the consequences of rolling the ‘dice of diarrhoea’ so recklessly!

All in all a good trip, and a nice taster of the Amazon area and things to come over the next couple of weeks.
